Organic Farmers & Growers
Grumpy Mule offers organic coffees for the following reasons:
- There are coffee lovers out there who buy organic produce and want great tasting organic coffees.
- There are organic coffee farms where the farmer’s organic ethos and sheer effort going into organic production are matched in the effort to produce great coffee. This care and attention finds its way into the cup of coffee which is in no small part down to this extra dedication.
- There is an organic price premium for Fairtrade certified smallholders - all of our Fairtrade coffees are also organic.
- Organic farming rules out the use of any artificial fertilizers and pesticides. Habitats in and around coffee farms are very sensitive places, particularly the water courses.
- We also source and offer non-organic coffees if we feel confident that the farm’s production is working in harmony with its surrounding environment.

About Organic Farmers & Growers (OF&G)
Organic Farmers & Growers (OF&G) is one of the UK’s largest organic certification bodies and was the first such organisation accredited by the Government to carry out this work. Bolling Coffee has worked with the organisation for a number of years, and Grumpy Mule coffees are certified by OF&G.
The term ‘organic’ as applied to food is a legally protected term. OF&G is approved to carry out the inspection and licensing of organic food farming and processing throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The company is accredited in this role by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and audited by the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
For a coffee to be certified as “organic”, all stages from the harvesting, processing, import, roasting and packing of the coffee must all be verified and organically certified.
