Each year we produce a seasonal coffee that perfectly suits those dark winter nights and Christmas dinners - it also makes a nice present too. This dark roasted, organic and Fairtrade certified coffee is a bit of fun as it lets us dress the Mule up in some festive outfits, but it remains rich, flavoursome and smooth with a fine array of Ethiopian coffees in the blend.

Available in the Grumpy Mule shop now.

After repeated suggestions that we should move out of the dark ages, Grumpy Mule is now on Twitter. Hopefully this will mean lots of updates, coffee thoughts, product news and general Grumpy Mule banter from Ian, Damian and the team.

  • Fairtrade Fashion Night at the Huntsman, Holmfirth

Our local Holme Valley Fairtrade Group held a Fairtrade Fashion evening at the Huntsman Inn above Holmfirth and Grumpy Mule's Damian was on hand to offer his rather poor modelling services. Thankfully, other than his catwalk performance, the rest of the night was a complete success and credit has to go to Helen for the organisation.

The turnout was excellent and the audience was treated to a range of Fairtrade clothing items, Oromo and Grumpy Mule coffee, a raffle of Fairtrade products and a complete array of craft stalls with ethically traded goods. Ian Agnew and Mumtaz Aly were able to watch on impressed as Huddersfield's "Young Ethical Entrepreneurs" raising funds for Project Kenya pretty much sold out of their Fairtrade gift sets - they looked to be selling like hotcakes and it was tricky to get near that stall.

A great night all round - let's just hope video footage of Damian's modelling doesn't make an untimely appearance.

We just received the electronic version of "Fair Comment", featuring our friends and business partners the Oromo Coffee Company. Fair Comment is the Fairtrade Foundation's regular newsletter. This will hopefully spread the message about their fantastic, Fairtrade certified coffees - unique in that they're sourced from smallholder coops in Limu, Harar and Yirgacheffe and each has flavour character from its individual region.

Wine and Coffee Wine and Coffee

It was a pleasure to meet Stuart George, freelance writer for the World of Fine Wine, the other week at a little tasting event we held in London. Also a big thanks to everyone else who attended.

It seemed daunting even to attempt to elevate coffee to the levels that wine reaches in terms of aroma, flavour and the influence of climate and terroir, but it's huge fun to put a real range of coffees on a single table and then compare and contrast them.

Please click here to read Stuart George's Worcester Sauce wine blog for his thoughts on the tasting - the Grumpy Mule and coffee related entry is dated the 9th November.
