Welcome to the Cupping Room!
"Cupping" is the technical term for coffee tasting
at its most analytical, where the coffee cupper (taster)
gets up close and personal with a wide variety of coffees,
armed only with a spoon and a spittoon. Its about using
your key senses sight, smell, taste to really
discover what a coffee is all about.
As a whole, this section is all about real coffee as it is;
right here, right now. Its our way of bridging the gap
between farmer, Roaster, coffeehouse, retailer and yourself
and making it both informative and enjoyable.
We aim to provide our own perspective on news relating to
the coffee industry, adding little pieces of internal "news"
when theres a story to be told. Well introduce
key topics of conversation and debate by way of our "Main
Talking Point" features, and let you enter the world
of coffee discovery through our "Travel Logs" and
photo gallery.
Another important element will be our "Guest Column",
where we intend to place forward the perspectives of others
working in and around coffee, from the farmer to the barista.
We also hope to give you a quick peek inside our actual cupping
room where a lot of coffee tasting and decision making
takes place so that you can understand why we choose
the coffees that we do, and why we roast them in a particular
way.
The other factor is that this section will be more organic
than most. It will start life as a proverbial seed and grow
and develop as time progresses, so please bear with us as
we develop it.
