Grumpy Mule Cup of Excellence Coffees

New Cup of Excellence award winning coffees from Bolivia and Brazil are on the horizon. Arriving very soon at the Roastery is Cafe Wara Wara III from Lucila Isidora Quispe de Quispe, Lot 16 from the 2009 Bolivian Cup of Excellence competition.

Cafe Wara Wara is produced at an altitude of 1700m and has some of the classic flavours found in Bolivian coffee - complex aromatics, fine acidity, sweetness and a creamy mouth-feel. Damian has recently returned from Bolivia and met with several producers who had enjoyed success in this competition, and its clear how highly regarded the Cup of Excellence program is within Bolivia - particularly as it raises the profile of what is essentially a very small producer country and attracts some serious prices for farmers (the average price was $7.77/lb of coffee, over 5 times the "Fairtrade" price).

Cafe Wara Wara will be priced at £7.95 per bag and will be available from 1st March.

We have also bought coffee from the very recent Brazil Cup of Excellence competition, Lot 21 from Sitio Monte Verde. This Pulped Natural, Yellow Bourbon coffee is produced by Helcio Carneiro Pinto Junior on Jose Roberto Canato's Fazenda Monte Verde in Minas Gerais state. It promises to be a delightfully chocolate-nutty coffee with rich body and smooth taste.

Sitio Monte Verde will also be priced at £7.95 and we hope to see this coffee in the next couple of months.

We still have coffee available from 2 of the earlier Cup of Excellence competitions held in 2009, the amazing Finca La Pira Lot 11 from Costa Rica (so good that we lots more bought more coffee from the Carlos Urena's farm and hope to for the forseeable future) and the highly drinkable Colombia Las Delicias Lot 20.
